Registered voters in the town limits of Drexel, Glen Alpine, Valdese, Longview, Connely Springs, Rhodhiss, Morganton, and Hickory may vote in 2023. Others vote in 2024.

Early voting at Board of Elections 2128S Sterling St, Senior Center 501 N Green St, Rutherford College Town Hall 980 Malcolm Blvd in Rutherford College, & East Burke Sr. Center/Library 101 Main Ave W, Hidebran. Vote at precinct site on Election day.

Early voting: M-Fri Oct. 19-Nov 3 and Sat. Nov 4 8AM-3:00PM (the only Saturday).

ELECTION DAY Nov 7 6:30am-7:30pm Absentee ballots must be returned by 7:30PM on election day and must include a copy of your picture ID. You may request an absentee ballot now.

 

Voter Photo ID Requirements

Voters will need to show a valid photo ID before casting a ballot.  A driver’s license is an acceptable form of ID as are military or veteran IDs issued by the federal government.  

Approved other forms of ID including universities and public employees may be found on the NC State Board of Elections web site under IDs approved for voting.  Some local acceptable IDs include employees of the NCSD, students at Lenoir Rhyne University, students and employees at McDowell Technical Community College, students and employees at Appalachian State University and Lees-McRae College. WPCC ID’s are not accepted at this time.

 

If you are a registered voter, The Burke County Board of Elections will provide a photo ID free of charge at their office at 2128 S. Sterling St. in Morganton as will the N.C.  Division of Motor Vehicles.  In order to receive your Voter ID, you will need to provide:

·         Name

·         Date of Birth

·         Last four digits of Social Security Number

and have picture taken.

If you do not have a photo ID you may sign a paper stating why you don’t and you can vote anyway,

A copy of your photo ID must be included when using an absentee ballot. 

Convicted felons may only vote once they are released from prison, completed all parole requirements, and satisfied all outstanding fees and fines including child support.
